Year 7 students "Simply the Best"Posted on: 11th Oct
Last week, a group of our year 7 students had the wonderful opportunity to meet a published author at the Chicken and Frog book shop.
After a brisk walk up to the High Street, we all filed through the bookshop and into a small back room where we had an intimate audience with the author Linda Hurcombe.
Linda told the students a little about her new book, The Jesse Tree, before reading them some extracts. She spoke about her work and the inspiration behind this story which is a captivating teen novel narrated by Robin Swallow, who used to live in London, in the heart of a city full of life. Now she's living in the back of beyond in a sleepy rural backwater where nothing happens. Well, apart from the murder at the manor house.
The advantage of such a small group was that each student was able to put questions to Linda and join in the discussion that these questions provoked. The event ended with each student receiving a signed copy of Linda's book.
Clearly there was mutual appreciation for this event as not only did the students say how much they enjoyed it but we later received a message from Linda saying how delighted she was to meet our "gorgeous clever kids who are simply the best".
