Primary Transition

As we all know, moving up to Secondary school is a daunting process for both students and their families. At BCHS, we pride ourselves in the support and care we offer throughout the transition process right into Year 7.

Our transition programme offers a multitude of exciting opportunities to all our primary schools, which are located over the Essex, Thurrock and Havering areas. This starts as early as Year 5 with school taster days, author visits, primary school workshops and primary school assemblies. For parents we host school tours and coffee mornings which include Q&A sessions with key members of staff.

All our current Year 7 students take part in our Buddy Scheme. They volunteer their time, throughout the transition period, to help prepare and settle the new students into our school. The buddy system has proven to be a great success and is something we will definitely be running every year.

Our after-school Year 6 subject workshops are so well attended we have decided to make them a permanent part of the induction programme. As well as emailing information on the workshops home to parents, the details can also be found on the Upcoming Events page of our website. To avoid disappointment, please remember to book your child’s place as early as possible as our workshops are limited to numbers and fill up fast.

Every year we run two Year 6 induction days at the end of June. All our prospective Year 7 students are invited to spend 2 days in our school experiencing fun and challenging lessons. This is a great opportunity for them to meet other students from their year group along with different members of staff. Lunch is provided on both days so they will also be able to taste some of the delicious food we have on offer. More information on these days will be sent home in due course.

Our transition programme ends with our extremely popular Summer School. This runs for 3 consecutive days over the summer holidays. Again, this is the perfect way for all the Year 6 students to meet new friends, staff members, and accustom themselves with our school before they join us in September.

All details on our transition programme will be sent direct to our Year 6 parents, and both our Facebook page and website will be updated accordingly. Please keep checking our Transition 2023 & Upcoming Events tab for more information.
