Students are encouraged to learn a musical instrument in school. We have an excellent team of specialists from Essex Music Services who teach singing, rock and orchestral instruments. Charges are made for individual music tuition, but there is help available in cases of financial difficulty (in accordance with the Governors' Policy). Students who choose to follow a Key Stage 4 or Key Stage 5 music course are also entitled to 15 minutes free instrumental tuition on an instrument of their choice.

Students may also join in the various singing and instrumental groups that run every lunchtime. We encourage students to enjoy music from different cultures and to form their own ensembles. We arrange trips to concerts and shows and our performers are regularly asked to represent the school at awards evenings and community events.

All music groups within the school are invited to play at lunchtime concerts, Open Mic Nights, Cabaret Evenings and formal concerts. Our musicians also take part in the annual Carol Service at St. Thomas' Church.
