Nicholas Bowling visits BCHS

Author Nicholas Bowling visited BCHS recently to speak to year 7 & 8 pupils about his debut novel Witchborn

Witchborn is set in the time of Elizabeth I, the story follows the fortunes of Alyce whose mother is burned at the stake for being a witch.  Alyce finds herself alone in 16th century London with a witch hunter in hot pursuit.

To show students just how easy it was to find one’s self on trial for witchcraft in Elizabethan England, Nicholas decided to put one of our students on trial having appointed a witch finder as prosecutor.    The audience happily found their fellow pupil guilty as charged but role play was suspended before sentencing!

Several lucky students received a copy of Witchborn for asking excellent questions in the Q & A section at the end of the talk which this was followed by a book signing for those who had purchased/won books.

There are copies of Witchborn available to read in the school library.
