Robin Jarvis visits BCHS

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming renowned author Robin Jarvis to our school for a talk to a mixture of year 7 BCHS students and visiting local primary school children.  Robin held the audience enthralled as he talked of the  inspiration behind his stories and the basis for his current series, The Witching Legacy. Based in Victorian built Whitby, he drew on much of the myths and legends surrounding the area.  With  sinister villains and brave heroines and even a mention of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Robin had the students on the edge of their seats.  The students were particularly thrilled with Robin’s illustrations and handmade robot head.  Robin finished with a reading from his new book before taking questions from the students.

BCHS year 7 students have been working on the genre of horror, myths and legends in the last couple of weeks based on Robin’s latest book and have all produced an entry for a writing competition run by his publisher, Egmont.  Each student has written a piece on what they think happens next.  The entries are now being sent off to Egmont and we will have to wait and see if one lucky student wins a Kindle Fire plus £100 of books for our school library.
