Author Michael Grant visits BCHS

We were thrilled to welcome self-proclaimed evil genius, Michael Grant, to BCHS this week.  This celebrated author entertained year 7 and 8 students with stories of his life as well as letting them into secrets of his writing such as how he comes up with characters for his books.  Michael told us how he treats his book characters like employees and if they do a good job they might pop up again in another book, but underperform and he kills them off!   Michael talked frankly to students about his life before becoming a writer and answered some probing questions from the audience which   included students from Beauchamp High School and Grove House.  When asked what they liked most about the talk, students said “I liked how honest he was and how he gave such a detailed explanation of his new book ‘Monster’” also “he explained that he didn’t have a perfect life and how writing saved him”.  Many students also commented on how much they enjoyed hearing Michael read an extract from his new book.

Our thanks go to Author’s Aloud for facilitating this event and to Chicken and Frog, Brentwood’s independent bookshop, for supplying books for our students.
