A Level subjects

"Two years that I will never forget!" Year 13 leaver

Studying A-levels with us will provide you with a fantastic education and a variety of new experiences.

To study A-levels with us you need to achieve at least five A*-C grades at GCSE. Some of our courses require (at least) a grade B at GCSE to study them at A-level.

Alongside your main subjects, you will also be able to study Global Perspectives or Core Maths. Further information about each of these can be found in our subject choices on the left hand side.

If you have not achieved a grade 5 in either English or Maths, you will be expected to continue to study these until you achieve the grade 5 with our successful English and Maths faculties.

It is crucially important to us that students experience new things and are given opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise get. Once a fortnight, all sixth form students have the privilege of attending our TEDxBCHS enrichment programme which is our version of the global phenomenon ‘TED talks’. Our speakers this year have included specialists in Animal Rights, Student Finance, a survival expert and many more! Students have unanimously enjoyed the talks and may start to deliver short sections of the talks themselves as the new term begins. Warning – not always for the easily offended or the squeamish!

Every term, all students are given the opportunity to take part in a community responsibility. Twice each week students might be planning events, supporting younger students with their reading, mentoring nervous year 11s with their exam preparation, working in the school stationery shop and many more. Students are given new opportunities every term to ensure they receive a breadth of experience to give them a head start with UCAS/employment applications for life post BCHS.
